Tell All Thursday: Cha's Organics Coconut Milk
When we can't source our ingredients locally, we look to get the best quality and most ethical ingredients possible. That's why we use Cha's Organics coconut milk to make our vegan ice cream base.
Cha's Organics is a Canadian company based out of Montreal, created by two individuals that wanted to do business which reflects their values of diversity, organic agriculture and fair trade practices. Their products include spices, tropical fruits and coconuts that are grown organically on biodiverse, small to medium-sized family farms.
The farmers that grow for Cha's Organics are part of a Fair Trade system, where Cha's ensures each grower is guaranteed a minimum for their crops and the premiums are paid to them directly. The farmers also receive the resources they need for the growing season such as seedlings, tools, animals and bees, paid for with their premiums. Ongoing training continues to support traditional and biodynamic growing methods that allow farmers to avoid the use of harsh chemicals. Cha's believes that the Fair Trade system combats the pressures for agriculture worldwide to be destructive, polluting, and expensive to satisfy the demands of large multinationals companies.
