Supplier Series: The Crumby Cookie Dough Co.

This Tell All Thursday we are going to get to know the ladies behind Material Squirrel's irresistible peanut butter cookie dough, our latest supplier The Crumby Cookie Dough Co!

The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. is a local small batch cookie dough company that supplies Southwestern Ontario with safe to eat cookie dough of all different varieties. This month we have collaborated with The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. to create Material Squirrel ice cream which is simply our chocolate ice cream with chunks of The Crumby Cookie Dough Co's Material Squirrel dough, a brilliant creation of peanut butter cookie dough with toffee chunks!

As is true with any of our suppliers we love to get to know the people who are working as we are to make local and mindful products. In a brief interview with Sara and Jen, The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. founders, it's clear that The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. values the same things we do, getting delicious products made with real foods to the people! Below is an interview with the Crumby Cookie Dough Co. explaining a little about their story and what is going on in the world of dough.

What inspired the creation of The Crumby Cookie Dough Co?

The Crumby Cookie Dough Co: Sara and I became friends working together in the restaurant business, she as a chef, myself as a manager. We always worked well together, became good friends and often joked about starting a business together. Last Halloween, Sara was at my house helping me hand out candy and opened my fridge to find a log of cookie dough that clearly had been dug into and eaten raw, not baked (I think there may have been a spoon sticking out of it J). This lead to a fascinating conversation over text the next day that continued on for a few days, where Sara would tell me all the cool flavours she would make if she ever had her own cookie or cookie dough business, and I would say things like ‘we should talk about this for real’ until it just became something we started talking about seriously! Before we knew it, we were looking at trailers and applying to festivals!

What would you like Four All folks to know about The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. and your delicious dough?

The Crumby Cookie Dough Co: Everything is made with love and care and as much as possible with local and fair trade ingredients. We knew early on we wanted to use Ambrosia chocolate. We get as much of our peanut butter and peanuts as we can from Picard’s. Any food dye we use is made by our own hands with fruits and vegetables (shhhh, don’t tell the kids who love our Rainbow Pony Show dough).  Sara’s family farm has bees and we use that honey whenever we can. We believe in real food and work hard to keep the dough real.

Without a brick and mortar location, how do you get your delicious cookie dough to dough lovers?

The Crumby Cookie Dough Co: Well, we kind of live and breathe cookie dough these days J Any spare time we have is spent making dough, dreaming up and testing new dough, improving existing recipes and thinking about how to spread the word. We are booked at festivals all over Southwestern Ontario most of the summer (check out the calendar on our website to see where we’re at!) and specifically in KW, you can get a cookie dough delivery right to your door  in conjunction with our friends at Eco Courier.

What is your most popular cookie dough?

The Crumby Cookie Dough Co: Chocolate Chip is generally the most popular – I think it’s the nostalgia of eating out of the bowl when you made cookies as a kid J But the runner up changes depending on the festival – some days it’s Material Squirrel, some days it’s Rainbow Pony Show, some days it’s Sugarbush. Depends on the crowd and how people are feeling! People often ask what our favourites are - Sara can’t stop eating Material Squirrel and for me it’s the Chocolate (S)quad, but I’m a choco-holic.

What is the most adventurous cookie dough you've ever created, or what flavour are you hoping to try soon?

Crumby Cookie Dough Co: So far, I would say the one we just did last weekend for the Summer Lights Festival – we made a beer caramel with Abe Erb’s beer (they were sponsoring the festival so we thought it would be a great collaboration) and then we stuffed the dough with beer related snacks – pretzels, beer nuts and potato chips J (Sara’s been dying to put potato chips in some kind of dough). We called it I’m Gonna Snack You Silly!

As you can tell the sky’s the limit when it comes to what The Crumby Cookie Dough Co. will create next! To get your hands on some of their delicious dough you can place an order online at www.thecrumbycookiedoughco.com or visit them in person by checking out their website for what festivals they are headed to next in Southwestern Ontario! On behalf of the FourAll folks and every person ever to taste Crumby Cookie Dough we sincerely thank you Jen and Sara for creating an awesome company and making the tastiest cookie dough around!
